As the holiday season is upon us, we find ourselves reflecting on the past year and those who have helped to shape the Leaside Skating Club. It's been quite a year for us all!
We currently have almost 600 skaters enrolled across our CanSkate, StarSkate and Power Skating session this year. In addition to that we have four teams of approximately 70 skaters on our Meraki synchronized skating teams. Think about that. Almost 700 children and teenagers invest their time in learning how to skate, doing something physical, developing friendships and learning to work as a team! Some of these skaters are from within the Leaside community, some from nearby areas BUT some travel a significant distance every session just to be a part of this Club. That is truly amazing and we are honoured to be a part of your children’s skating experience.
This year we have introduced a FreeSkate Competition team for our single skaters. These talented skaters will represent us in area competitions throughout the competition season. We have 20 skaters who have met the criteria to join the team. When you see them in the lobby at the arena, please wish them good luck as they embark on their competition season. You’ll recognize them as their team jackets are red and black.
Our synchro teams are also about to start their competition season. Three of our four teams have already competed at Bill Phillips in Stratford earlier this month with two of the teams placing third in their division. What a great start to the season for these skaters who have worked so hard this Fall on absolutely fantastic and beautiful programs!
Thank you to our coaches who every day, stand out on the ice and work with the skaters to make sure they achieve their individual skating goals. Thank you to Lisa Crupi, our Club Administrator, MK McDougall, our Learn to Skate Coordinator and Jen Williams, our StarSkate Coordinator, who all do their part to ensure that our programs are engaging for the skaters and run smoothly. Finally, thank you to the parents who continually support our Club through enrolment as well as volunteering. We could not do this without you.
On behalf of the Leaside Skating Club Board, I wish you all a safe and happy holidays. We will see you in the New Year!
President of the Leaside Skating Club Board
