Welcome returning LSC families as well as new families looking to join the Leaside Skating Club. We have been proudly teaching skating to the Leaside community since 1952. Please see below detailed information about the programs we offer.
Our Club offers 3 programs in Learn to Skate. KinderSkate, CanSkate and Pre-STARskate. Each program runs a tested and proven curriculum, that will guarantee skater success. Skaters will develop strong skating skills in a enjoyable and engaging environment. We expect skaters to progress at their own rate, while having fun to upbeat music and a wide variety of activities. Leaside Skating Club strives to create a motivational environment and promote learning.
CSA hockey helmet is mandatory until a skater passes CanSkate Stage 5 Badge.
This program is for skaters interested in Figure Skating, competing and and taking tests where they will continue to work on their CanSkate stages with an additional focus on skating skills, jumps, spins, spins and other figure skating exercises. Skaters must wear figure skates. In addition to the on ice lesson, off ice classes are included.

Beginner Synchro is focused on fostering a love of synchro to synchro-curious skaters, through synchro skills building and a “team” aspect
This teams may perform at Meraki Synchronized Skating Showcase with our other Meraki Teams (November) and Holiday skates (December and February.)

STAR 1-5
The STAR 1-5 program offers the best-in-class figure skating curriculum in Canada, targeting athletes looking for a future in the sport. Taught by Skate Canada NCCP coaches, the program introduces participants to the basic figure skating elements to create the foundation for singles, pairs, ice dance and synchronized skating.
All skaters in this program must have passed CanSkate Stage 6 or equivalent. Skaters may be any age. Adaptive skaters who have the required skating ability welcome.
STAR 6 - GOLD
STAR 6- Gold is an assessment and event structure for skaters who completed the STAR 1-5 Program. This structure builds on the skills acquired in STAR 1-5 and introduces skaters to more advanced figure skating elements.
The STARSkate program consists of figure skating skills in four areas – Skating Skills, Ice Dance, Free Skate and Artistic. STARskate Program.
If your skater has completed all CanSkate Stage 6 but has not passed all three STAR 1 STARskate tests, interested in figure skating, please choose Bronze STAR
Bronze STAR
Skaters must have:
A high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players. This program focuses on balance, control and agility skills including components of power and speed. Skating skills, techniques and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP to enhance the skating ability required in game situations. Some of the top players in the NHL have trusted Skate Canada’s best-in-class programs to help them reach hockey’s biggest stage including Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Mark Scheifele and Jeff Skinner.
Skaters may be any age and must have previous skating experience that equates to Stage 3 in CanSkate or higher. All CanPowerSkate participants must have hockey skates, gloves, a stick, and helmet. Full equipment is optional.

The Beginner Team is part of both the Leaside Skating Club’s new Synchro Skills program and a part of Meraki Synchro. It is a program where synchro-curious skaters will be introduced to the world of synchronized skating. Meeting once a week for a 45-minute session, Meraki Synchro Beginner Team members will learn basic synchro skills and concepts, master a cohesive synchronized skating team program and experience the thrill of performing live as a team at various synchro showcases throughout the season.
The Meraki Beginner Team is perfect for CanSkate skaters who are working on CanSkate Levels 4, 5 or 6 and are interested in pursuing figure skating. CanSkate Level 3 and figure skates are requirements for being a part of the Meraki Beginner Team.
