Synchronized skating, or “synchro” is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow.

Skate Canada’s SynchroSkate program includes a number of Synchronized Skating categories which accommodate skaters at any age and skill level.

Leaside Skating Club is pleased to introduce the new Synchro Skills program for the 2023/2024 season. The Synchro Skills program is a series of levelled training sessions designed and led by synchro experts. Focused on building key skating and synchro skills to help elevate the quality of Meraki Synchro, the Synchro Skills program works as a complimentary program to Meraki Synchro.

Synchro Skills are specialty training sessions designed for skaters dedicated to mastering their synchro skills and interested in synchro long-term. These demanding sessions will motivate skaters to accelerate their learning and empower Meraki team members to improve as a collective – leading to stronger, more competitive teams.

The Synchro Skills program, offered under the Leaside Skating Club umbrella, functions as a separate program and with a separate fee not included in Meraki Synchro team budgets. Skaters are encouraged to participate in weekly Synchro Skills session on top of 2 weekly figure skating requirements for Meraki Synchro team members. While Meraki Synchro team members are strongly encouraged to participate in Synchro Skills, participation is not mandatory to skate on a Meraki Synchro team nor is it mandatory to be a Meraki Synchro team member to participate in Synchro Skills.

The levels include:

  • Pre-Preliminary Synchro Skills (10 mins, included within Pre-Star sessions monthly)
  • Beginner Team/Synchro Skills 1 (50 min, weekly)
  • Synchro Skills 2 (50 min, weekly)

Note:  Synchro Skills must be purchased in addition to a Learn to Skate, Pre STARSkate or STARskate registration.
